Art in Stitiches
Welcome to my website where you can find information about my textile art, exhibitions and other projects
My inspiration comes from all manner of places and often festers in my head for some time before coagulating into a cohesive idea worthy of interpretation. Although my works are predominantly 2D, over 25 years experience in the couture clothing market means I can lapse into 3D easily and with competence. My making and construction skills feed into my practice, bringing a wide and varied knowledge of advanced techniques to support my creative endeavours. My work takes the shape of stitched paintings, art to wear items and photography and I have a list longer than a standard arm of private clients across three continents.
I am an award winning member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, Prism Textiles and the Crafts Council directory of makers. Images of my work have been included in several publications on the subject of textiles and embroidery in particular, Mary Schoeser’s Textiles: The Art of Mankind.
A trained teacher based on the East Sussex/Kent border in the UK, I work for local adult education providers in addition to running “The Sewing School” delivering courses on a range of stitched disciplines from basic sewing machine skills to soft furnishings, dressmaking and machine embroidery. I also design and deliver workshops and talks to interest groups on similar techniques and can tailor them to suit particular needs or time frames.
